I really want to see who is watching me here on Jaiku. It bugs me that I can't treat this like a social network.

and me, too. I mostly like Jaiku better and wish everyone would switch :) At least your Twitter entries can end up here, too.

I kind of like the fact that I don't know - I simply assume that it's for friends, rather than general broadcast. BTW, are you using Jaiku on your mobile (has to be an S60 phone, at the moment)? You get a whole different perspective on what it's about when you use it from mobile.

ianbetteridge: I'm using it both from Jaiku and from my phone. Agreed the phone integration is nice, although sure eats my battery life.

I'll vote for Jaiku over twitter too, didn't get the same intergration of feeds or feeling of conversation with Twitter as you do with jaiku. Allways saw Twitter as just a stream of small posts. I'm looking forward to the new 0.54 jaiku client and being able to carry on the conversation from my Nokia though..hurry up jaiku and release it..even public beta would be nice!

Agreed about the battery life (supposedly getting better on the next release). Someone described Jaiku as "presence designed from a phone geek's perspective", while Twitter was "presence from a web geek's perspective". I think that sums up the difference nicely. And the key is that it replaces your contacts book - effectively adding presence to contacts, which is nice.

Hm, never tried using jaiku on a phone. did with twitter though. Maybe due to the fact that I use a geeky treo650 instead of a trendy nokia or nongeeky win-treo? I like the m.twotter.com thingy, if jaiku has this I will also use it by phone.

I used imified.com to post. I'm a cheater. I post to twitter and jaiku. I just wish jaiku would post updated in google talk like twitter does.

oliverg, basically the Jaiku app on S60 is like a replacement for your contacts list, with the Jaiku-sourced presence information, rather than just a posting engine. It's nice! Effectively, I use Twitter as a microblog and Jaiku as presence- which works nicely.

@janbetterige I am not sutre i understand the difference ;)

Well, the difference for me is that I Twitter at least as much about what other people are doing, or about thoughts and ideas, or simply as a reminded to myself about something, rather than about what I'm actually doing. So I Twitter more, and Jaiku less, I guess. But as all my Twitters end up streamed to Jaiku anyway, you can still keep up from there :)

I'm watching. Also a fan of your podcast and blog. (I know that you didn't mean for all of us to post, but oh well.) If you're ever in Indianapolis, look me up and I'll buy you a cup of coffee and show you around town.

That would be a cool feature, I agree!

I think it's a planned feature for "sometime in the future". I think it was Petteri (or was Jyrri? I forget..) who said that they might also provide the option of making it private so that only you can see who is following you.

Another option is to keep a track of the email notifications that someone is following you I guess.

My issue is that I'm not getting all the emails... yet my number of contacts is increasing regularly. All good - just be nice to know who's new and potentially ad them back.

Maybe its cause I use my phone apps a lot, but I am not noticing battery consumption getting worse with jaiku on my E61
