I like it. It has more features than Jaiku, has better contact management, has better advertising integration, and has a cooler look. Offline app is nice too, but Twitterrific is just a touch nicer in my experience so far. Not sure what mobile experience is yet, which is where Jaiku excels.
Prashant: well, I think the market will tend to pick one. I'm seeing fatigue with social networks. Facebook is going to dominate, though, with these things playing in its orbit.
I have thought about the differences between Jaiku and Twitter and if a service would come along that combines the best of both worlds, I think you would have a winner. Is this what Pownce does?
Personally I don't like Twitter at all. The IM thingy doesn't work for me and the thing looks pretty awful out of the box. I'm glad to be on Jaiku. My real-life friends are on neither of them anyways :)
But Pownce looks promising already - if anybody has any invites, I'd be very grateful if someone passed me one ;)
The winner will formulate a successful brand / biz growth strategy. The winner will cross over into mainstream; maybe via sheer virality (doubt it), maybe a UI that sparks kids, maybe one that makes the enterprise more fun/empowering, or one that emerges as a runaway hit in Asia.
I think mobile is key. The future of these companies will live on mobile. It's all moving mobile. And the best mobile experience should feel the same across all devices. Good luck!
These service are driven by innovation, evolution, and the tech heads, tech pundits, tech writers and vcs. This is perhaps the most interesting conversation (flavor of the moment) going right now. For us. We love it. But, we're only a drop in the bucket of the total marketplace.
How about making these things working on an open standard. Choose your client (brand of service) + point of access.
Why choose? It's more about where your friends and contacts are then how good a piece of software is, though I'm sure the software can do quite a bit in getting people to try new things.

Does one have to win, or will we have three big services that dominate?

Everyone? I believe the key question is whether this becomes a true mainstream market or not. I believe it will, but it is hard to say when.

I wonder how folks attain these invites, I think thats a business oppurtunity in and of itself. At any rate, I'll take one too :)

The winner needs to enable more than just us.

Makes sense. Jyri made that point to Rafe Needleman at CNET last week.
